Book Description:
This is the fourth of a five-volume exposition of the main principles of nonlinear functional analysis and its applications to the natural sciences, economics, and numerical analysis. The presentation is self-contained and accessible to the nonspecialist. Topics covered in this volume include applications to mechanics, elasticity, plasticity, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, stastical physics, and special and general relativity including cosmology. The book contains a detailed physical motivation of the relevant basic equations and a discussion of particular problems which have played a significant role in the development of physics and through which important mathematical and physical insight may be gained. An attempt is made to combine classical and modern ideas and to build a bridge between the language and thoughts of physicists and mathematicians. Many exercises and a comprehensive bibliography complement the text. This corrected printing contains many revisions as well as a list of new and recent references.

Explicit Stability Conditions for Continuous Systems: A Functional Analytic Approach (Lecture Notes in Control and Information Sciences)
By Michael I. Gil'
Publisher: Springer
Number Of Pages: 196
Publication Date: 2005-04-29
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 3540239847
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9783540239840
Binding: Paperback
Book Description:
Explicit Stability Conditions for Continuous Systems deals with non-autonomous linear and nonlinear continuous finite dimensional systems. Explicit conditions for the asymptotic, absolute, input-to-state and orbital stabilities are discussed. This monograph provides new tools for specialists in control system theory and stability theory of ordinary differential equations, with a special emphasis on the Aizerman problem. A systematic exposition of the approach to stability analysis based on estimates for matrix-valued functions is suggested and various classes of systems are investigated from a unified viewpoint.
Liapunov Functions and Stability in Control Theory (Communications and Control Engineering)
By Andrea Bacciotti, Lionel Rosier
Publisher: Springer
Number Of Pages: 238
Publication Date: 1899-12-31
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 3540213325
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9783540213321
Binding: Hardcover
Book Description:
This book presents a modern and self-contained treatment of the Liapunov method for stability analysis, in the framework of mathematical nonlinear control theory. A Particular focus is on the problem of the existence of Liapunov functions (converse Liapunov theorems) and their regularity, whose interest is especially motivated by applications to automatic control. Many recent results in this area have been collected and presented in a systematic way. Some of them are given in extended, unified versions and with new, simpler proofs. In the 2nd edition of this successful book several new sections were added and old sections have been improved, e.g., about the Zubovs method, Liapunov functions for discontinuous systems and cascaded systems. Many new examples, explanations and figures were added making this book accessible and well readable for engineers as well as mathematicians.

Functional Equations with Causal Operators (Stability and Control: Theory, Methods and Applications, 16)
By C. Corduneanu
Publisher: CRC
Number Of Pages: 296
Publication Date: 2002-09-05
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 041527186X
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780415271868
Binding: Hardcover
Book Description:
Functional equations encompass most of the equations used in applied science and engineering: ordinary differential equations, integral equations of the Volterra type, equations with delayed argument, and integro-differential equations of the Volterra type. The basic theory of functional equations includes functional differential equations with causal operators. Functional Equations with Causal Operators explains the connection between equations with causal operators and the classical types of functional equations encountered by mathematicians and engineers. It details the fundamentals of linear equations and stability theory and provides several applications and examples.
Stability of Functional Equations in Several Variables and Isometries
(Progress in Nonlinear Differential Equations and Their Applications) (Hardcover)
by D.H. Hyers (Author), G. Isac (Author), Themistocles Rassias (Author)
The notion of stability of functional equations has been an area of revision and development for the past 20 years, having its origins more than half a century ago when S. Ulam posed the fundamental problem and D. H. Hyers gave the first significant partial solution. This volume is unique in that (to date) none exists as a comprehensive examination to the subject. The authors present both classical results and their original research in an integrated and self-contained fashion. Apart from the main topic of the stability of certain functional equations, related problems are discussed. These include the stability of the convex functional inequality and the stability of minimum points. The techniques used require some basic knowledge of functional analysis, algebra, and topology. The text could be used in graduate seminars or by researchers in the field.

Absolute Stability of Nonlinear Control Systems, 2nd Edition (Mathematical Modelling: Theory and Applications)
By Xiaoxin Liao, Pei Yu
Publisher: Springer
Number Of Pages: 384
Publication Date: 2008-08
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1402084811
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9781402084812
Binding: Hardcover
Product Description:
Following the recent developments in the field of absolute stability, Professor Xiaoxin Liao, in conjunction with Professor Pei Yu, has created a second edition of his seminal work on the subject. Liao begins with an introduction to the Lurie problem and the Lurie control system, before moving on to the simple algebraic sufficient conditions for the absolute stability of autonomous and non-autonomous ODE systems, as well as several special classes of Lurie-type systems. The focus of the book then shifts toward the new results and research that have appeared in the decade since the first edition was published. This includes nonlinear control systems with multiple controls, interval control systems, time-delay and neutral Lurie control systems, systems described by functional differential equations, the absolute stability for neural networks, as well as applications to chaos control and chaos synchronization.
This book is aimed at undergraduates and lecturers in the areas of applied mathematics, nonlinear control systems and chaos control and synchronisation, but may also be useful as a reference work for researchers and engineers. The book is self-contained, though a basic knowledge of calculus, linear system and matrix theory, and ordinary differential equations is required to gain a complete understanding of the workings and methodologies discussed within.
