In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the formulation of many physical problems in terms of integral equations, and this has fostered a parallel rapid growth of the literature on their numerical solution. This volume, then, is a further contribution to what is becoming a subject of increasing concern to scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.
Although a variety of equations and solution techniques are treated here, two areas of emphasis are to be noted; these are the numerical solution of Cauchy singular integral equations and the use of initial value and related methods, topics which we feel present challenges to both analysts and practitioners alike.
