The New York City Interscholastic Mathematics League is the oldest and largest local organization of its type in the United States. Records exist of competitions given by the league since the early 1920s, and there are indications that these contests were the continuation of an even earlier tradition. The contests have contributed to the unique position that New York City holds in mathematics education today. In national and international contests, New York City high school students have shown a high degree of talent, interest, and achievement.

The questions in this book are from the Senior A division contests. This division is open to teams of students at or below their senior year in high school. A series of five contests is given each term. Each contest consists of three pairs of questions, with a time limit of 9-12 minutes for each pair
