Maps
Developed by professional cartographers, World Atlas contains the highest quality maps available for a PC.
· Hundreds of detailed, high-resolution VGA full-color reference and relief maps can be accessed--maps of every country and most dependencies in the world.
· Ocean floor relief maps show water depth and ocean floor features. The new ocean surface maps show oceans in the context of surrounding countries and regions.
· Thousands of different statistical maps (StatMaps) can be created. These can be selected from a number of categories containing hundreds of different data topics to create statistical maps at the world level or for any of 13 regions. Categories include: Geography, People, Education, Health, Government, International Organizations, Crime, Economy, Agriculture, Communications, and Travel.
Informative Text
An enormous international database includes information from the United Nations, World Health Organization, Central Intelligence Agency, INTERPOL, World Bank, Population Reference Bureau, U.S. Department of State, World Meteorological Organization, and other U.S. and international organizations.
Detailed text information on hundreds of different topics in numerous different categories is included in a convenient outline format: Geography, People, Education, Government, Crime, Economy, Health, Agriculture, Communications, Travel, and Cities.
Information is available for hundreds of cities worldwide. The cities include national capitals and other significant centers of people and resources.
Statistical Maps and Graphs
Two types of statistical maps allow you to map data for maximum readability. Shaded maps show comparative data, such as rates and percentages. Bar maps illustrate total amounts.
You can create graphs illustrating any of the statistical topics available - for up to 15 countries. Or, you can have World Atlas graph the 15 countries with the highest or lowest data for any statistic.
The User Data Entry utility makes it easy to add your own statistical data to World Atlas. Create your own topics and display the information using StatMaps and graphs.
Other Features
A Search index is available to help you locate unfamiliar places on the appropriate map. If you don't know where the Gobi Desert is or want to find a place in the world, but you can't remember how to spell the name, use the Search feature. Just type in the first few letters of a name (e.g., Gob...) or scroll down the alphabetical list. Two mouse clicks and the correct map appears.
Worldwide times and dates are easy to find. Just point to a city, click, and the current time and date for that city appears. And, the time and date are automatically adjusted for daylight savings time!
An Information window displays useful facts about regions, countries, and cities. You can also display the source of data for statistical maps and graphs.
Using the Note Pad, you can maintain a personal set of notes for each map. Collect information from the Information window and other Windows sources.
Map Markers make it easy to customize a map by adding symbolic icons. Identify the locations of airports, historical events, and any other point of interest. Use our collection of markers or add your own.
The Distance Finder can instantly display the distance between any two cities in the world in miles or kilometers.
The graphical user interface takes full advantage of Windows 3.0 and 3.1. You can "point and click" your way around the globe. Just point and click on a region or country and the appropriate map appears.
Export maps and text through the Windows Clipboard for use in desktop publishing or word processing applications.
Print reports in an informative, professional format. Reports can include maps, graphs, and/or text information.
