Dear sir Alsalam alaikom
I am a postgraduate student from Iraq in the college of science university of Baghdad studying to get the master degree in aquatic ecology and pollution.
I had finished the preparing year in the depth. of Biology {ecology}and now I want to study the heavy {trace }metals contamination and accumulation in the Garraf river water ecosystem .
Garraf is a branch of the great Tigris river south of Baghdad ;it is about 230 km length from Kut city and ended in the south marshes; flows in semi desert region with 30 c water temp. in Summer and 15 c in Winter ; well oxygenated and low BOD ; much turbidity in Spring with moderate salt ; it has depositing silt mud bottom ; about 30m width ; 3m depth.
Garraf has a poor benthic fauna ,only chironimide ,oligochete ,few molusca ; its zooplankton are rotifera , cladocera, copepoda there are aquatic plants ,alge , and fishes .
Dear sir can you help me in designing my thesis by giving me some suggestions and thoughts about using the suitable biota as bioindicators for the river which became more polluted later because the low rain rate in the north and there are few small and middle cities with urban waste water flows in it without any treatment .
There are enough Iraqi studies about heavy metals in fishes and no body studied zooplankton , benthos or plants and other organisms .
I have a problem because there are no different between the stations along the river ,so how can I compare my results .
I will use the AAS technique to analyze the samples.
Please can you send me some references which are not on the web and the procedure of the AAS and collecting the samples.
Thank you for your time and I am waiting.
