Book Description
In the last 10 years organic dyes, traditionally used for coloring textiles and other materials, have become increasingly important in the hi-tech industries of electronics and optoelectronics. They can be used in optical data storage, new solar cells and biomedical sensors.

Functional Dyes discusses the synthesis of these new, high-value dyes and pigments as well as their applications — which include optical data storage, solar cells, reprographics, biomedical sensors, and other high-tech uses in electronics and optoelectronics — and performance. The chapters are arranged to lead the reader logically from fundamental concepts to more practical aspects of the technology in which they are used. This book focuses attention specifically on developments achieved within the last ten years.
From the Preface: “...[T]his book is considered to be necessary for the readers engaged in university, research institute, and industry so as to improve their fundamental knowledge and have a wider appreciation for functional dyes. In addition, this book is to provide information on the latest developments and future directions in the functional dye chemistry...These dyes can also be applied to organic photoconductors, solar-energy utilizations, sensitizers, biomedical probe, photocatalysts, and so on. These new trends of dye chemistry have been recently developed and these classes of dyes are of significant importance in high-technology industries...”

Target Audience: Materials scientists, chemists, researchers, and graduate students concerned with functional dyes.
