Step a
:3,5,6,7.8-Pentahydrobenzoll,2-blpyrimidino[5,4-d]se]eriopheri-4-one: To a solution of 2- amino-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[l,2-b]selenophene-3-carbonitrile (5.4 g, Abdel-Hafez, Sh.H. Russian J. Org. Chem., 2005, 41 , 396^101) in formic acid (50 mL) was added concentrated sulfuric acid (20 mL) dropwise for 15 min. The reaction mixture was stirred at 80-90°C for 2 h and allowed to rt. The reaction mixture was poured into ice cooled water and stirred for 15 min. The precipitated solid was filtered, washed with water and dried to give the product as a pale brown color solid (4.5 g, 75percent), mp 250-260°C
