Organic Chemistry 5th edition - Carey
1335 Pages (( DJVU )) format
Hot off the presses is the fifth edition of Carey's text. The book is organized around the classical functional group approach to organic chemistry with an emphasis on mechanisms. The beginning of the book has been restructured to include discussion of acid/base chemistry and orbital hybridization theory. A new chapter devoted to nucleic acid chemistry has been added to the end of the book. The book also contains 42 Boxed Essays which cover aspects of chemistry relevant to chapter material, some historical, included merely to whet the student's appetite for a career in the world of chemistry. Additional resources for the book provided by McGraw-Hill include a test bank of problems, an image library from the book's content, an online learning center and others.
Conclusion
As you can see, while all organic chemistry textbooks cover the same material, there is some variety in their approaches. A professor looking to teach the course for the first time would do well to sample a few of them to decide which best suits his intended approach to what is arguably one of the most difficult courses taught to undergraduates.
